Welcome to the latest news from TESS.
We hope that this newsletter finds you well.
The dry season has hit here in Teso. The skies are blue and the days are sunny with a strong, dry breeze. Students are returning home from school after exams and are looking forward to Christmas with friends and families. Whilst giving gifts isn’t a major part of the celebrations, food and time together are and preparations are well under way. The team here has been busy making exciting plans for 2019 which we are looking forward to sharing with you in the New Year. Many of our students have completed their current stage of education in the last few months. We have around 30 students who have either finished their vocational courses or have completed S4. We’ll be writing to sponsors of these students in the next few weeks to let them know what their students are doing next.
We wanted to say a great big Eyelama to the Nottingham based Kwon Sale team who have, once again raised a fantastic amount of money for TESSthrough their sale of nearly new baby and children’s items. The Kwon team hold their sale twice a year and donate around £4000 of the profits to TESS. There are lots of bargains to be had on the day too so it’s well worth a visit. Christmas Appeal 2018 Sponsor a Sewing Machine
Stuck for a Christmas gift for someone special?
Looking for something that will raise a smile and change a life?
In early 2019, we are planning to start a small series of tailoring workshops for school-aged girls who are not in education or employment. We will train them in business and entrepreneurial skills and also give them the practical training they need to start their own fashion/tailoring businesses. We will give them access to all the materials they need to get started and also give the opportunity to join a savings scheme so that they can eventually buy their own equipment.
For any size donation, you can sponsor a sewing machine on behalf of a loved one. Using a sewing machine will be a major part of the training we will offer. We plan to offer training to around 100 girls per year so your donation really can make an impact here in Teso.
Donations can be made by cheque or bank transfer. Please contact the office to let us know your donation amount and who we should send a gift card to on your behalf. Gift cards will be sent out by first-class mail on Thursday 13th December so please get your order in by then.
