Karibu! (Welcome!) to the latest news from TESS.
We hope that all is well with you and yours. It’s been a busy and productive time in Teso…
Our S4 students are preparing to take the equivalent of their GCSEs in November/December of this year. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they revise and take their exams – their results will determine what their next steps will be; either A’ levels or vocational training. We are delighted that three of our university students have completed their courses this year and we wait to hear their results and plans. Well done Ajeso Sharon Evelyn, Adio Ketty and Adoa John Pius! Huge thanks to their sponsors who have faithfully supported these students for many years.
Our income generation group are also doing well, so well in fact that they are fully supporting the project through their own product sales! Brown paper bags have once again been popular in the community and orders have come in from local businesses for over 5000 bags to date. The group have also made and produced craft items which are being sold to tourists in Teso as well as in the UK and Australia. The group are now able to provide food, transport and baby-care items whilst working on site and also take home a small profit at the end of the month. The group has also started a savings scheme to pay for any emergency medical treatments required by their children. They recently held a community day which was supported by 150 people from the local community! The group made cupcakes and tea for the visitors and showed them around their recently opened shop which sells craft items, soaps and candles. Entertainment was provided by the students and local young people and a great time was had by all! We are looking forward to training more young women in 2020.
Finally, we welcomed Doreen Ajilong as our new Programme Manager in Uganda. Doreen is a local resident with experience of managing programmes such as ours. She already has lots of ideas and suggestions and has fitted in very well with the team and with our students and their families. We look forward to the future and wish her all the best in this role. We are still recruiting Trustees. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about this opportunity to help TESS with plans going forward, please contact the office for more information and an application form.
Thank you, as ever for your ongoing support. Please enjoy the photographs below of Doreen and Scovia on their recent S4 student visits and of the Community Day held on site. Please do not hesitate to contact the office with any questions or queries email@example.com
