October 2018 Newsletter

Welcome to the latest newsletter from TESS – a quick update to let you know what we have been up to over the last few weeks.
We hope that it finds you well.

The weather here in Teso is hot with some rain – although not as much rain as people had hoped for or needed. Growing crops has been challenging and we will shortly be moving into the dry season.

Our students have returned to school after their summer break and are working towards their end-of-term exams. It’s a particularly important time for both our S4 and Midwifery students who are coming to the end of their courses so please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Joanne will be writing to all sponsors whose students are finishing in 2018 in the next few weeks.

Students at the office before returning to school – don’t worry, we don’t really let them ride in the truck. They enjoyed posing for the photos though!

It’s been great to catch up with our S4 students at school. We’ve been encouraging them to study hard for their upcoming exams and also offering guidance for their next steps after S4. Some of our students would like to go forward to S5-S6 and study for A levels and they’ve shown over the last four years that they have the ability to achieve good marks at this level. The majority of our S4s have expressed a desire to go forward to be trained in a skill so that they can begin to earn money to support themselves and their families. We’re excited to see what they all do next.

We’ve been meeting with key stakeholders to discuss our strategy for 2019. As well as meeting local education government officials, we’ve been talking to our Alumni representative, Joseph (the first ever TESS sponsored student) and also our advisory committee, ADCOM. It’s vital for us to involve local voices in our planning to ensure we are really delivering relevant opportunities for the young people of Teso.

Congratulations!!

to Salume Tracey who has been chosen as Head Girl for her school, Halcyon.
We are very proud of her!

That’s all for now. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we work to develop strategy for 2019. Also, please remember our students who are preparing for important exams at this time.  As ever, thank you for all your support.
Every blessing, The TESS team.
